Immigration raid- Shot analysis
1. 0.10 over the shoulder shot. The shot is used to establish the positioning of each of the characters in the scene.
2. 0.12 double width mid shot. The shot is used to show the characters to the viewer and give the scene a more dramatic atmosphere.
3. 0.14 close up shot of character. The shot allows for the viewer to read the characters emotions.
4. 0.15-0.18 zoom shot. This shot helps to establish the changed setting as well to draw the audience towards the new character.
5. 0.24 over the shoulder long shot. This shot helps to further establish the setting as well as to help integrate the new characters to the scene.
6. 0.28 close up shot. This shot helps to convey the characters emotions.
7. 0.30 mid shot. This shot helps to bring the viewer further into the scene by showing them the way in which the actions in the scene are perceived by the other characters.
8. 0.32-0.34 moving shot. This shot helps to establish motion.
9. 0.57 close up shot whilst another character is talking. This allows the viewer to accurately gauge the reaction of the character to whatever is being said to them.
10. 0.16-0.20 moving over the shoulder shots. This shot sequence helps to create a feeling of panic and chaos.
11. 1.24 through the grate shot (same principle as an over the shoulder shot). This shot helps to convey the idea that the hotel workers are trapped to the audience due to cage like grate and the tight corridor.
12. 1.29 close shot. This shot focuses the viewer on the struggle that is going on to open the door and the amount of pressure that the hotel manager is facing to hide her employees.
13. 2.02 close shot. This shot focuses the audience on the hotel manager amidst the chaos of the scene.
14. 2.08 high angle shot. This shot helps to convey the helplessness and vulnerability of the character.
15. 2.24 mid shot. This shot helps to establish the characters location and the shot of him wearing headphones helps to explain why he is ignorant of the situation.
16. 3.03-3.05 walking shot. The slow walking shot helps to convey the characters power to the audience.
17. 4.01 close shot. The close shot again helps the audience to gage the emotions of the character speaking.
18. 4.23 mid shot. The mid-shot helps the viewer to see the reactions of the minor characters in relation to what has just taken place.
19. 4.45 close up. The close up shot helps to give the audience emotive detail.
20. 4.55-5.09 panning shot. This shot helps to reveal the emotions of the hotel staff after the events of the day.
