Star Wars trailer- Sound analysis


1.  0.08 Non-diegetic sound.  Non-diegetic sound is implemented through music to capture the viewers attention and draw them into the video.



2.  0.18 Non-diegetic sound.  Non-diegetic sound is implemented in the narrative aspect to introduce the viewer to the character.



3.  0.23 Non-diegetic sound.  An alternate narrator opperates using non-diegetic sound to create a narrative conversation giving insight towards another character.



4.  0.38 Non-diegetic sound.  A third narrator appears on screen and a non-diegetic narration begins which creates the idea that the audience is listening to the on screen characters thoughts.




5.  0.55 Diegetic sound.  Character appears to talk to audience in the way that the footage has been cut in reality character is likely to be talking to a supporting character as breaking of the fourth wall is unlikely given the franchises history.  This also helps to submerge the viewer in the narrative track of the film.




6.  1.04 Diegetic sound.  Characters scream is synchronised with footage of destruction which gives the carnage on screen a more emotive impact towards the audience.




7.  1.06 Non-diegetic sound.  Fast paced soundtrack which has rises and falls in rhythm, tempo and volume that links to the space craft chase occuring on screen.  This helps to draw the viewer into the trailer and add excitement.




8.  1.16 Diegetic sound.  Diegetic narration merges with previous non-diegetic narration to tie toghter the narrative as well as the new and old characters currently on screen.




9.  1.17 Non-diegetic sound.  Non-diegetic sound is used to help simulate the fast paced travel occuring on screen due to the hyper speed.




10.  1.21 Non-diegetic sound.  Narration is combined with the trailers sound track to create an emotive montage of clips from the film to draw the viewer in and hook them on the plot.
